Studies have shown that there is not much of a difference between taking the medical abortion pills before or after 6 weeks.

Good to know if you are very early:
- Very early on, an ultrasound may not show the pregnancy yet. So a doctor may not be able to see if the pregnancy is in the right place (in the womb).
- In rare cases, the pregnancy grows outside the womb. This is called an ectopic pregnancy, and the pills do not end it. In the big study, a total of 1 per cent of all participants had an ectopic pregnancy.
- That is why a check-up afterwards is important, for example a pregnancy test or a blood test.
- Go to a doctor right away if you have strong pain on one side of your belly, feel faint or dizzy, or still feel pregnant after taking the pills.
