The landscape of abortion laws and access to abortion services has undergone significant changes in recent years. In 2022, the US Supreme Court overturned the federal Constitutional right to abortion with the Dobbs decision, leading to the implementation of highly restrictive abortion laws in several states.

Telemedical abortion services have become certified as approved abortion care in the UK, France, Canada, Ireland, and since December 2021, also in the USA. The availability of telemedical abortion in the USA has increased accessibility for low-income women, with the average cost dropping from over $500 to under $150. Low cost and no pills at no cost have been particularly beneficial for Black and Hispanic women, who make up the majority of US abortion patients and have an income below $25,000.

Recently published research showed that also in US states where abortion was banned after the Supreme Court decision, more than 3 times more women requested telemedical abortion service from Aid Access.
